What Children's Church Means To Me

I have been struggling with what to create verbally most for this class. For weeks, no function seemed to peak my interest. I was trying to resolve what to write about for this term paper of all places at work, when it hit me like a ton of bricks. Write about what I know and so I started putting my thoughts on paper and what I had been reading about and studying everywhere the years as a parent on what to do and how to raise our children in a Godly way.
I never really thought about this being a ministry or a calling for me until recently listening to all the pedagogics these last couple of years in church and through and through Bible College. Sometimes it takes God knocking us imbibe to get our attention in what He wants us to do. Since I was in my early 20s, I have either worked with children or youth. About 10 years or so ago, I just stopped---dont really remember wherefore or if I still knew why, but I did.
I never looked at myself as being a teacher in childrens church. I always saw myself as the helper. When I was first asked to help in childrens church, I didnt even have to think or pray, I already knew in my heart that kids/teens were my calling even though I didnt know in what capacity.




The strangest thing happened though, after helping for a very brief time, the teacher I was helping left and I was asked to fill in. You know, get word! Wow, was I in a panic. My first reaction was of course, this isnt for me, I cant teach, I took Fs in school when I had to give a 2 minute speech or presentation. Me teaching kids? But, I knew I was postulateed and that was all it took for my journey to begin
Of course, to me I am so inadequate to teach, but I am willing and I love kids. I find it fun, but also repugn to say the least. It is not something I take lightly either. Our children or more than the future of our church, they are part of the church today.
