Some linguists differentiate between diglossia and bilingualism in a very interesting way. The main difference between diglossia and bilingualism is that dissimilar bilingualism, diglossia is using two varieties of the same language, and that the two varieties occur unitedly at the same time for variant contexts. However, if diglossia exclusively duologue about two varieties that are used for different contexts, t here seems to be some issues to ponder when some linguists refer to Arabic as a diglossia. First of all, in the case of Oman, and roughly probably all former(a) Arab countries, a variety of Arabic is regional, and therefore there are so many other varieties within the same country that can be for the most part or slightly different from each other. Omanis, for instance, tend to immix the local variety with the meter Arabic. Standard Arabic refers here to the language of the press and not that of Arabic literature. The situation per se is more complicated than having two independent varieties of Arabic; a local and a standard one.
