Edgar Allen Poe

On the January 19, 1809 one of Americas large(p)est poets was born, Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar was born to David Poe and Elizabeth Hopkins Poe. He excessively had two siblings, Henry and Rosalie.(Giordano) Only one year afterwards his death, Poes father abandoned him and his family. Only a year later, when Edgar was two, his mother, Elizabeth Poe died from consumption. later on the death of his Edgar was taking in by a flush tobacco merchant named John Allan in Virginia. As a way of thanking the Allans for taking him in, he had his name changed to Edgar Allan Poe.
In 1815, Poe went to Irvine, Scotland where he attended a grammar school, and two years later he attended a boarding school in Chelsea. (Ghare) At the age of 17, Edgar Allan Poe registered at the University of Virginia. Although the Allans were wealthy, John Allan did not give Edgar satisfactory funds to get by in college. Edgar began drinking heavily and gambling, to make up for the inadequate money. Poe lost a great amount of money while gambling, this caused a dispute surrounded by John Allan and Edgar, and as a result Edgar did not chase away to the University of Virginia the following year. Shortly after Allan did not let him issue to the University, the two argued and Edgar was driven from John Allans home.



After that he went to Boston, Massachusetts, and publish a volume of poems, called, Tamerlane and Other Poems nether the pseudonym Henri Le Rennet. (Ghare) Since he didnt have any money, Edgar enlisted in the Army under the assumed name Edgar A. Perry. Poe did fairly good in the Army, earning the regulate of Sergeant-major.(Wilson)In 1829, Edgar moved down to Baltimore, Maryland with his aunt Maria Clemm, his grandmother, and his cousin, Virginia Clemm. That alike year, Mrs. Allan died, and as a final request, she asked that Edgar and John reconciled. In reply to this, John put in a good sound out for Poe at West Point Military Academy.
