In the story Where are you going? Where have you been? by Joyce Carol Oates the main characters are Connie and Arnold Friend. Connies decisions were made because he was threatening her family. Arnolds decisions were made because he was desperate for attention. In the story there are more situations that portray Arnold and Connies characteristics and personalities. Although Arnold was a dangerous man Connie saw everything see wanted in him.
Arnold threatened to hurt Connies family if she didnt go with him and his suspensor in addition to doing what he wanted her too. She was putting them at risk if she didnt do. He made it count like it was her fault, so she had to choice but to go with.
Arnold knew everything rough Connie. He knew her family, friends, as well as where she lived. Him knowing many things about her made him seem friendly. She felt up that hed been around forever and that he had a comforting billet to him.
Arnold made it seem like they were only going for a joy ride around town.



She felt that he was no harm. He acted like he wanted to be her friend and she felt like she was making new companion. Only later she had got into the car he began being hateful to her and threatening her.
Arnold was persuade to her and she went with him to save her family. He convinced her that he was her friend and that he knew everything about her. She believed that she had found a good friend.
