This essay tries to critically assess the contri moreoverion that Frederick Taylor- father of scientific care- has made to the management of organisations over the last century. More specifically it tries to explain how the concepts such as time & motion studies, standardization of procedures, selection of workers, incentives for labour, management responsibilities and symbiosis between managers and labour, have helped organisations to growing productivity and reduce tensions between management and labour.

When we realise back off in the history to find the origins of management theories we often abide by across the names of Machiavelli, Sigmund Freud, Henry Minztberg, Peter Drucker, etc. but often missed is the name of Frederick Taylor who through his ideas of scientific management brought a radical change in the way organisations of twentieth century operate. Taylors ideas were so profound that they continue to embodiment the day-to-day experiences of most of the managers and workers today. Taylors philosophy of management was to look at it as a science, and that just like all physical phenomenon, even management can be explained in terms of laws, laws that can be used to understand the ways in which workers in an organisation can be managed.



Taylor clear that following scientific approach can help managers hit significant productivity from the workers. In his paper Taylor explains that using scientific methods such as experiments, observations, empirical calculations, etc. organisations can implant productivity limits much more appropriately than using the die hard of thumb.
